Bon Voyage

Jim and I made the decision to relocate to Calgary, Alberta in March of this year (2012).  We had been kicking the idea around for some time.  Could we leave our kids and friends behind?  Was our blood too thin to withstand those forty below winter days?  Would we be able to pick up the local lingo and add "eh" to the end of every sentence we spoke?  It was a hard decision, but we finally took the plunge and agreed to move to Calgary for three to five years in order  to expand Jim's company's foot print into Canada.  I left Waste Management the first week in May and haven't looked back.  Jim would now be my full-time "sugar daddy".  (Can someone that you have been married to for thirty two years be your sugar daddy?)  We leased our house in Houston to Aussie expats and started the long process of moving.  The house was packed and all the furniture vaulted and stored.  We planned to take off with only the "shirts on our backs"....sort of.  Eight boxes and six suit cases later, we are still cursing our inability to "let go of our stuff".

Our kids, Casey, Anthony, Ryan and Cindy, gave us the best send off anyone could ever ask for, a surprise Crawfish Boil.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with crawfish boils, let me tell you, there is a ton of work involved.  Ryan and Anthony started cooking around three in the afternoon and didn't stop until after midnight.  Casey and Cindy had the arduous task of inviting and hosting around fifty of our closest friends and making sure that the didn't "spill the beans" before the big surprise.  Thanks to everyone that came that day.  We love you and will miss you!

Now that the surprise party has been thrown and the packing is done, you would think that we would be on our way to Canada....well, not so fast.  Please see future posts on "Couch Surfing 101".
